1. Visual LanguageObjective: To Understand The Elements of Art, The Principles of Organization, & Gestalt by collaborating and creating a visual presentation using your own photographic examples.
4. Gestalt PrinciplesObjective: To utilize both digital examples and traditionally created designs to demonstrate comprehension of four Gestalt Principles:
- Similarity - Proximity - Continuity - Closure
7. Texture
Objective: To utilize actual texture from photographs as inspiration to create a transition from simulated to abstract texture.
5. LineObjective: To explore the principles of organization through the formal element of line. Multiple small format line studies will be used to identify harmony, variety, balance, movement, proportion, dominance, and economy. Line will be used in vertical, horizontal, diagonal, and curvilinear applications to aid in the realization of each of the principles of organization.
8. The GridObjective: To understand how to use the grid as a structural basis for organization as well as the different types of grids:
- Expanded/Compressed Grid - Planar Grid - Progressive Grid - Overlapping Grid - Arbitrary Grid
6. Figure / GroundObjective: To explore shape through positive and negative spatial divisions by creating designs with specific figure/ground relationships:
- Interlocking - Enclosing - Interchanging - Interpenetrating
9. Square 1 |
10. Square 2 |
Objective: To utilize the topics discussed in this class, in order to create a sophisticated and well-composed design on a 10" x 10" format.
Objective: Using your 10" x 10" Design from the Square 1 Assn. as inspiration, create a second 10" x 10" design in Adobe Illustrator.
